1. Get involved in wildlife and bird caring and watching, community gardening and other initiatives that help wildlife survive and thrive; consider leaving or adding habitat areas in your yard.
2. Call and write your state wildlife agency and your state and federal legislators to let them know you value wildlife and you want them protected. Your state and federal legislators contact links are under “take action” on our website.
3. Take part in action alerts and petitions offered by Save America’s Wildlife campaign and other conservation organizations.
4. Give wildlife the right-of-way. Watch for wildlife when driving, especially at dawn and dusk. If you see an animal or bird hurt call your wildlife rehabber.
5. Support bills that protect wildlife. You can find a list of some of the important bills under our “take action” page.
6. Educate yourself, friends and family about the important role wildlife plays in the ecosystems, our environment and our health.
7.If you hunt and/or fish do so legally, ethically and humanely. Hunting and killing wildlife for fun or “sport” robs us of much. If you see illegal activity or inhumane treatment; report it immediately to your state wildlife agency.
8. Cut back on meat. The primary driver of habitat destruction is livestock
9. Help wildlife by choosing vegan clothing, eliminating exploration of wildlife, domestic animals and reptiles that are killed for their skins.
10. Don’t purchase exotic animals and pets or patronize pet shops that sell them. Wildlife trade of live animals and wildlife products is a global threat to our biodiversity loss and is a major driver of animal to human pathogen transmission.Urge your legislators to stop wildlife trade.
